About our grading

A watch for every occasion.

Foundry

Stabilized & Ready to Wear

Foundry watches are old machines offered honestly. We verify their basic mechanical viability and power reserve and intervene only where necessary to return them to wearable function. We don't promise modern accuracy, high amplitude or freshly overhauled performance… and we don't perform unnecessary work simply to make those claims. What you get is an authentic vintage watch, stabilized and ready to wear.

Foreman

Serviced for Everyday Wear

Foreman watches are held to defined performance standards and evaluated on the timegrapher. Watches that don't meet those standards are disassembled, cleaned and lubricated, with critical damaged, worn or failing components repaired or replaced as necessary. Final measured performance is documented in the watch's Bench Report.

Primo

Comprehensive Mechanical Restoration

Primo watches receive a complete movement overhaul regardless of how they arrive at our bench. The movement is fully disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and regulated, with worn or compromised components addressed as appropriate, including mainsprings and other wear components when warranted. Final performance is measured and documented in the Bench Report, with the goal of returning the movement as close as reasonably possible to excellent mechanical condition.

FROM THE WORKBENCH

SMALL PARTS.
LONG STORIES.

Vintage watches are living mechanical objects carrying generations of history, repairs, and personality. Our standards are designed to preserve that authenticity while ensuring each watch is prepared appropriately for the life ahead of it.

Every watch sold through Indianapolis Watchworks is inspected and bench-tested before reaching its next owner. We inspect the movement for consistency with the watch and identify obvious mismatched or inappropriate components, test its power reserve, and evaluate its basic mechanical function. Watches that don't meet the standards of their collection receive the level of service necessary to get there.

Foreman and Primo watches undergo additional performance testing, including timegrapher analysis and regulation, with measured results documented in the watch's Bench Report. Every listing clearly identifies the service performed, so you know exactly what you're buying and what we've done to prepare it for its next chapter.
